Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 3

This episode is quite different from the first 2 episodes of the first anime. I can't say which one I like better as both are good in different ways. When it comes humor, I still prefer the first anime but when it comes to action and animation quality, this version is definitely much better.

I'm glad that they omit the birds part. I was quite freaked out when I saw Rose's lover in the form of a giant bird in the first anime.

Like the first anime, the scene I like best from this episode is the scene where Ed tells Rose to stand up and move forward. I find this version darker and more emotional.

Next episode, the focus will be on Tucker and Nina. (sad) Whenever I think of Nina, I feel like crying. (v.v)

Mini Summary
Ed and Al arrive at Lior, where they witness Father Cornello's 'miracles'. It's evident to them that the so-called 'miracles' are performed through Alchemy, which do not abide to the law of equivalent exchange. The only way for Cornello to do so is through the use of the Philosopher's Stone. They meet Rose in the Church and request to see Cornello. Cornello, who is wary of State Alchemists, ambushes Ed and Al, and asks Rose to shoot the Fullmetal Alchemist. Rose instantaneously assumes Al to be the Fullmetal Alchemist and points her gun at Al, and that totally p*sses Ed off. After realizing that Ed is the real Fullmetal Alchemist, both Rose and Cornello are shocked. In a panic, Rose accidentally shoots Al, and discovers that his armor is empty. Cornello then sends a chimera out to fight Ed, who fends it off using his automail. Looking at Al's empty armor and Ed's automail, Cornello figures out that the two brothers had committed the taboo of Alchemy: Human transmutation.

Ed and Al, along with Rose, manage to escape. While Al is explaining to Rose the sin they have committed, Ed is in Cornello's room waiting for his arrival. When Cornello finds Ed, Ed confronts him about what he’s doing with the Philosopher’s Stone. Cornello reveals that he’s with the Church because his 'miracles' will earn him believers who will sacrifice their lives for him. It takes Cornello a while to realize that Ed has been broadcasting their conversation to the entire town via a speaker that Al has transmuted. Cornello is enraged and tries to use the Philosopher's Stone, but it rebounds. When he tries to use it again, he grows into a big monster. Despite his much bigger build, he is defeated by Ed. When Ed tries to retrieve the Philosopher's Stone from Cornello, the stone breaks, and Ed realizes that it's a fake. Cornello runs off, but is later killed by Lust and eaten by Gluttony

As Ed and Al prepare to leave Lior, Rose confronts them about the Philosopher’s Stone. She doesn’t believe that it's a fake and thinks that they are going to use it to revive their mother again, but Ed reiterates that the dead cannot be revived. This leaves Rose at a loss. Ed tells her to figure out her future herself and asks her to stand up and move forward since she has 2 good legs.

Pictures

Poor Ed! His height is always getting him NO or TOO MUCH attention.

Cornello - the evil priest.

Poor Al! He's always being mistaken as Fullmetal Alchemist.

Winry's automail is really tough! Even a chimera can't bite through it!

Witty Ed manages to get Cornello to spill out his evil plan to the whole town.

Cornello becomes a monster. This is something new!

Ed: 'It's a fake!' (sigh) (sigh)

Lust and Gluttony combine forces to finish off Cornello.

Ed: 'Stand up and walk. Move forward. You have two good legs, don't you?'
