Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 8
Finally, there are new materials! I think from this point onwards, many things are going to be different from the first anime. I'm totally looking forward to that! In this episode, some of the characters seem a little different from the first anime. Barry seems funnier and Envy seems a lot more cheerful. If I remember correctly, Envy was perpetually angry in the first anime. In this episode, I like his interaction with Ed. I also like the part where Ed's arm suddenly broke down. It's quite funny.
Mini Summary
While Al fights Barry the Chopper, Ed faces Slicer the Homicide. Like Al, they do not have a body and their souls are affixed to the armors. Ed struggles in his battle and he remembers what Winry said about his automail being weaker. He has a hard time ending the fight quickly and finds himself defending most of the time. When Slicer comments on how his companion should have dealt with Al by now, Ed isn’t worried as he’s never won against Al. Indeed, Al has no problem fighting his opponent and Barry decides to pause the fight to tell Al about his past as a serial killer. When Al reveals to Barry that he has no body too, and about his brother, Barry then suggests that perhaps Al is an armor doll with fake memories created by his brother.
Back inside the building, Ed pretends that Al has arrived in order to trick Slicer into turning away, thereby giving Ed the opportunity to cut off Slicer’s helmet. However, this is not the end of Slicer as his body is able to move on its own. As it turns out, Slicer is a pair of brothers, and the younger brother controls the body of the armor. Losing a lot of blood and in a dire situation, Ed remembers Scar and uses the same decomposition technique to break the body of the armor into half. Despite his victory, Ed refuses to kill the brothers because he still considers them as humans, just like he does with Al. The elder Slicer is touched and so he offers to tell Ed everything about the Philosopher's Stone as a parting gift. However, before he can reveal anything, he’s taken out by Lust. Envy also appears and he destroys the seal of the younger Slicer. After that, Envy starts talking about a human sacrifice and a plan, and that gets Ed worked up. Ed tries to fight back, but his automail arm breaks down and he gets knocked out by Envy. Fearing that others might know about the 5th Laboratory, Lust decides to destroy the place.
Meanwhile, Al starts contemplating what Barry said as a possibility as he remembers how Ed had something that he was afraid to say. Fortunately, before Barry can get the upper hand on Al, Ross and Brosh arrive to help Al. Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, the entire building collapses. Envy walks out of the collapsing building carrying the unconscious Ed, and he disappears almost immediately.
In a nearby prison, Kimblee hears the commotion and loves the sound of a building collapsing as it reminds him of the Ishbal extermination. While all this is going on, Hughes and Mustang are talking on the phone about Mustang possibly being relocated to Central. Hughes warns him of potential enemies and advises Mustang to have a lot of people who understand and support him
