Monster - one hell of a thriller!

Monster is a rare gem.

It is a mystery and psychological thriller consisting of 74 episodes. As this anime series was produced a few years after the manga was done, the anime follows the manga very closely and do not have any fillers.

Story: (10/10) – Awesome
Monster is about a young promising neurosurgeon, Dr Tenma and his encounter with a pair of young twins, one boy and one girl. The young boy was shot in his head and Tenma saved his life. However, that action marked the turning point of Tenma's life.

The story writing is exceptional. Throughout the 74 episodes, many sensitive topics relating to ethical and morality issues are touched on. Monster has a main plot, but some episodes have a stand-alone story which is still related to the main plot. The story is full of action, suspense, thriller, mystery and character development.

Characters: (10/10) – Awesome
Though Monster has large cast of characters but each of them has a distinct personality, a role, and a purpose. The character developments of the main characters: Tenma, Nina, and Johan (through a third person perspective) are incredibly great.

Here are some of the characters I like:

Tenma - Though he faced a lot of sh*t throughout the series, he still managed to stay true to himself and his beliefs. That's definitely not an easy thing to do!

Johan - He's good looking and has a troubled and complicated past. Though he's the villain, it's really difficult to hate him!~~

Dieter - He's cute and he's a great moral support to Tenma and Nina.

Grimmer - I love his dual-personality! Magnificent Steiner!

Art/Animation: (8/10) Good
The characters are realistically drawn. Facial expressions are also very well-portrayed. Though this is a long series, the animation quality is consistently quite good.

Music: (8/10) – Good
Monster has a dark theme and the same goes for the opening and ending themes. Some of the themes are quite disturbing and I'm not a fan of such music. However, all the themes certainly suit the mood of the series very well.

Enjoyment: (10/10) Awesome
Watching Monster is one hell of a roller-coaster ride!

Overall: (10/10) Awesome
I don't think Monster is a series for everyone. The issues addressed are quite mature and serious, and I doubt everyone can appreciate it. However, if you like psychological thrillers, you should watch it NOW! (^-^)
