Tegami Bachi

Tegami Bachi is a manga I have been following since it was first serialized. It was the lovely and expressive artwork that first caught my attention. The lovely artwork and the beautiful colors give Tegami Bachi a very magical feel.

Initially, I was quite reluctant to watch the anime as I felt that there were not enough manga materials to be animated. However, after watching the anime, I'm glad that the anime was pretty faithful to the manga and it did not attempt to create an anime-only ending. Though there were a few episodes of fillers, they were actually pretty good.

Anyway, a second season of Tegami Bachi has been confirmed and it will start in the autumn season this year! ^^

Story: (8/10) – Good
Gauche is a Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee) and his main responsibility is to deliver any letter to its destination. During one of his assignments, he met a young boy named Lag who's the letter to be delivered. Gauche made friends with Lag and inspired him to become a Tegami Bachi. Five years later, Lag finally realized his dream of becoming a Tegami Bachi. However, the one who inspired him has gone missing and Lag's determined to find him no matter what.

In the Tegami Bachi world, letters are the hearts of people. I believe this applies to our world too. Given the advances in technology, people hardly write letters now but instead, we do much more emailing and twittering. It's definitely more efficient to communicate via internet/technology, but I think a handwritten letter certainly contains more warmth and feelings.

Anyway, I find the story unique and Tegami Bachi has many emotional moments, beautiful scenes and unexpected events.

Characters: (9/10) – Very Good
The characters are very likable and readers can relate to them almost immediately.

Here are the characters I like:

Gauche - He looks so cool and mysterious!~~

Lag
- He's cute and a crybaby! I can relate to him very well as I'm a crybaby too.

Zazie - He looks cute with his small dracula teeth. :D

Jiggy Pepper - He hardly appears but he looks really cool!

Art/Animation: (8/10) Good
I love the art and character designs! The art is lovely, beautiful and has a magical feel. However, I wonder why the animation team decided to make the monsters look so CG?! =.= It certainly does not suit the mood of Tegami Bachi. Other than the CG monsters, the animation is great!

Music: (8/10) – Good
The music is quite nice and suit the theme of the series well.

Enjoyment: (9/10) Very Good
I enjoy reading/watching the art and the story is also captivating enough to keep me engaged and interested.

Overall: (8/10) Good
Tegami Bachi is full of mysteries and strong characters. The first season might seem a little slow-paced as it was simply about building up the characters and atmosphere. The second season will definitely be more interesting and I'm looking forward to it.
